Morning excursion to Amer Fort – Amber is located at a distance of 11 kilometers from Jaipur and was the old fort of the Kachhwaha clan of Amber, which used to be the capital, till it was moved to Jaipur.The fort is built with white marble and red sandstone and look even more attractive because of the Maota Lake in the foreground. The fort in itself is a beautiful sight to behold but as one looks on the fort with its clear reflection on the lake in the front, one cannot help but wonder if it is a dream or a beautiful illusion.
Afternoon city tour visiting City Palace , the former royal residence built in a blend of the Rajasthani and Mughal styles. Jantar Mantar, is the largest of the five observatories built by Sawai Jai Singh. The Hawa Mahal or the Palace of Winds was constructed for the royal ladies to watch the royal processions without being seen. Amber Fort, situated just outside the city, is perhaps the most beautiful example of Rajasthani forts and gives a grand view of the city down below. Udaipur is a fascinating blend of sights, sound and experiences. Right from the medieval times, the city has been an inspiration for poets, painters and writers. Founded in 1559 and named after Maharana Udai Singh, Udaipur became the capital of the Sisodia dynasty whose earlier capital was Chittor. According to legend, the Maharana was out hunting one day when he met a holy man meditating on a hill overlooking the Lake Pichola. The hermit blessed the Maharana and told him to built a palace at that very spot, as it would be well protected. The Picholia Lake, Udai Sagar, and Pratap Sagar are some of the most beautiful lakes in the state. Once the capital of the Marwar state , it was founded in 1459 A.D. by Rao Jodha-chief of the Rathore clan of Rajputs who claimed to be descendants of Rama – the epic hero of the Ramayana . While the graceful palaces , forts and temples strewn throughout the city bring alive the historic grandeur, exquisite handicrafts , folk dances music and the brightly attired people lend a romantic aura to the city. After breakfast take sightseeing tour of Jodhpur visiting the magnificent Mehrangarh Fort, famed as one of the largest forts in India. Erected on a hilltop, 150 m high, this fort was commissioned in the year 1459 by Rao Jodha. You cross 7 gates to arrive at the fort. The view from the top of the fort is lovely. The next attraction of the day is to the landmark of the city, Jaswant Thada, popular as the Taj Mahal of Jodhpur. This white marble memorial was founded by Maharaja Sardar Singh in 1899 in memory of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II, his father. Your next ride is to the stunning Umaid Bhawan Palace and Museum. While a part of this palace is now a luxury heritage hotel, the other part is a museum. A well-maintained museum that displays a variety of personal belongings of the Maharaja Umaid Sing and other members of the royal family including weapons, crockery, trophies, stuffed leopards, antiques and a collection of clocks.
